Walking in the Light

Light in the dark allows one to see. In scripture, light describes God's truth and darkness describes Satan's lie.

I was reading out of the book of 1 John today.  In this book, John describes the characteristics of God, light, love, and life.  I was reminded that these same characteristics should describe those who profess their faith in God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). It states if one who professes Christ does not himself abide in Him, or have these characteristics, that he or she is a liar. Wow! Pretty blunt.

I started thinking of the basic purposes of the first responder, to provide light, show love, and provide life. Was that not the heart of the Good Samaritan? Is that not why many first responders do what they do?  Yes!

Unfortunately, many who profess Christ intentionally strive to live as Christ, but have been deceived and no longer practice according to God's plan rather practice according to their own plans. In 1 John 5:21 we are warned to guard ourselves from idols.  If you are not putting Christ first in your life, even if serving with the desire to serve Him, you are idolizing yourself (i.e. job, possessions, money...?).

Christ is our advocate. As believers, you and I are called to do as Christ did and more John 14:12.  Have you surrendered yourself and submitted to your calling to be and do as Christ?  When you professed your faith in Christ, guess what? You accepted your responsibility just as the first twelve disciples did.

Think of it this way.  Any first responder whether law enforcement, fire, or EMS would not enter any dark scene without a light. They would not be able to practice and would be in danger of getting injured or even killed. How would they be able to see those whom they are there to rescue and lead out of harms way?

First responders are called to "serve and protect", "do no harm", and "preserve the life and property of those they serve". As Christian first responders and professional first responders, we are to exemplify Christ in all we do. I know it is difficult, but without continued time in His word and practicing His word, you will be defeated, unable to endure the challenges of this life here on earth and so will those who are watching you.  Without continued study and practice, you will stumble, and become ineffective as if walking in the dark and not in the light. WALK IN THE LIGHT!

James 1:21-22 "21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves."
