Cornerstone

"Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed. I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the level."

Isaiah 28:16-17 NASB

"Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious cornerstone, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed."
1Peter 2:6 NASB

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and My burden is light."

Mathew 11:28-30

What is the purpose of the cornerstone? Isaiah prophesied it, and the disciples witnessed it; Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the "cornerstone" of the Church. A cornerstone is a part of the foundation that establishes strength and a level line or plumb line for the rest of the building. Being level is essential in any building structure. If a foundation is not solid and level, the rest of the building will not be level causing the distribution of the structure's weight not to be carried to the foundation, causing collapse.

As members of the Church, it is our responsibility to understand our role and what our part is not. My foundation must be secure for sustainability. Also, my role must be directly linked, connected to the cornerstone. If not, I will fall out of line and collapse due to the imbalance of my understanding. Yes, as a part of the body, I play an essential role in establishing a place where others can find rest and restoration, but it is not my responsibility to be the weight barer. I must lead others to Christ, help them get their footing, and then "give them over" to Christ. Maybe my role is that of a cross beam which by its design assists to "carry the load." But remember, if aligned and balanced correctly, the load distributes that load down to the foundation's strength, which rests in the cornerstone.

There are several definitions for balance in the description of purpose and action. Which definition will you use?

As God's disciples, we must be careful not to place ourselves in positions of responsibility that we are not assigned or called. As a body member, if I get dislocated from my alignment, the body can not bear weight, and the body falls.

Which definition below will you choose and which will you release?

noun
1. an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.
2. a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportion

verb
1. keep or put it in a steady position that it does not fall.
2. offset or compare the value of one thing with another.
