A Reason For Discipline

Proverbs 3:12 " For whom the Lord loves He reproves. Even as a father corrects the son in whom He delights".

You and I live in a time when we are bombarded with cleaver advertising slogans like "Just Do It", "Have It Your Way", "Pleasure is the path to Joy", and so on.  Why do advertisers appeal to your ego?  To lure your mind to accept that you have a right to do as you want.  This idea actually reciprocates the concept of what they are suggesting they are doing.  Adds in essence tell you what to buy, when to buy it, why to buy it, and how much to spend.  Some even go as far to suggest that you are not valuable enough until you purchase their product.  Do you see any suggestion of a desire to care for your "rights"?

Until now, I did not believe that secular advertising companies believed in the Bible or that God existed.  Do you know why I think they do?  Those that write such wonderful slogans have an understanding that people have an innate selfishness and a nature to defy authority.  This suggests to me that there is at least an awareness that people have the ability to decide between good and evil.  That is why they work so hard to appeal to that "flesh" part of you. Nature is in their favor. As a human, you have a natural tendency to "sin" or live outside of God's will.

Why did God give us the Bible?  Not to throw a list of does and don'ts at you as a form of punishment.  Nor is it a tool to be used by some hypocritical bigot thinking that he or she is above you lofting judgmental quotes to justify his or her self righteousness.  God wrote a love letter to give you directions so when you get lost you can find your way back home.

We all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23. God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) loves you and wants to protect you from Satan's traps.  Satan is very subtle. It takes a keen eye to see his deceptions.  Only God, through His loving discipline, can give you the eyes to see, the ears to hear, and the heart to desire His will and not your own.  Obedience is key to a life lived in true Joy.  What are you going to do?
