As a former Field Training Officer (FTO) in the Fire/EMS career, my responsibility was to mentor new recruits. I was not only responsible to mentor the new recruit, but was also had to evaluate his/her abilities. I was there to help them with their transition from knowing how to do the job to actually doing it (didactic to practical). My knowledge and field experience provided assistance to help instill confidence in the recruit so he or she could go and work independently. This sometimes required me to step back to allow them the opportunity to practice their skills so I was not a crutch. I would have to push the recruit beyond his or her fears. Sure, they were never alone, but would have to rely on their abilities so to be available to respond to the call. Many believers have a lot of head knowledge, but lack in the experience. Very few Christians are free from strongholds and in the field "doing" the word (James 1:21-22). But many fear the stepping out of the boa...

Mathew 26:36-46 36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.” 39 And He went a little beyond them , and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” 40 And He *came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? 41 Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “...

As a Christian, do you have a "spiritual mentor" or have you accepted the responsibility to become one? Why? or Why not? The model of Christian leadership is Jesus Christ. There were numbers of men and women who followed Christ's example. Each had the responsibility to pass on their desire, knowledge, and experience to others. Discipleship!!! The role of a disciple was not appointed to someone just because they were a warm body and accepted Christ. He or she bore the "fruit" of Christ's presence in their lives. No, they were not perfect, but did exemplify the characteristics of Christ so that others would achieve the same. Who, other than a pastor, has exemplified the character of Christ in your life? What have you gleaned from him or her? Have you changed? Are you passing it on? James 1:21-22 "Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save you...
Peace On Earth

How do you define peace? Webster has five applications of the definition. I like these: 2 : freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions 3 : harmony in personal relations : in a state of concord or tranquillity Each one of these definitions describes a sense of freedom. Do you experience peace in your life? If so, how do you obtain peace? What brings you a sense of freedom or tranquility? For some, it may be time involved with a hobby. Others may be time spent with family or some other relaxation technique. These are good, but are to never come in between you and God. No matter what method, if your are able to obtain peace on your own, is it sustainable, does it last any period of time or through any circumstance? As a believer, I can find enjoyment in a hobby, time spent with family, or even just a walk in nature. But, I have come to know, that the only peace that sustains is a trust in Jesus' ability to be ...

Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Transforming the Abandoned

I went to an art festival with my family today. There were many exhibitors. As we were walking down the street, I saw a booth with some interesting photographs displayed. I walked over to get a closer look and was amazed at what I saw. There were photographs of abandoned buildings covered with graffiti, broken windows, and litter strewn across the properties. All were covered with beautiful colorful lights. The artist Xavier Nuez was displaying his work that resurrected the beauty of the abandoned, dilapidated buildings in the worst sections of many cities across this country. Like this artist, we are to be available with the gospel of Christ to bring light into those who are lost in the darkness of this world. Christ's light shinning in and through us can help "resurrect" those who have been broken, abused, defaced, and de-valued by Satan's lies. The question is, are your available? Do you see potential in yourself? Do you see yourself playing a significan...

To live in freedom is to let go. Letting go of your troubles and fears. Letting the LORD wipe away all your tears. He wants to carry your burdens so that you may grow. He always holds on to you. The path to freedom is what He tries to show. We must have faith in Him and never doubt, because, when you are locked into your troubles Jesus is the key that opens the lock and lets you out. © Clint Fleming

In Noah's time, man was very corrupt. Man was not the least bit interested in following God. They had their own gods. But, there was Noah. A light in the crowd. In Genesis 6, Noah was favored by God. Why? Noah was righteous (right with God). He did not follow the ways of man. He surrendered and submitted his desires for God's. He obeyed God. Noah was blameless. God honored Noah and came to him detailing His plans to "reboot" the earth. Think of that, God telling Noah how he was going to destroy man because of his corruption and start over. God was not in error, man was. Noah was selected because of his righteousness and God protected him, showed favor. Genesis chapters 6-9 describes Noah as a man that did not question God's plans, just did them. That takes an incredible amount of trust, surrender, submission, obedience, and love. Noah must of had an incredible amount of trust in God. Trust established upon a great relationship. A relationship built upon a...
